The Gamehendge Series

I recently finished up my illustrations of the Gamehendge series.  I initially started this project in June of 2013, but after doing 4 illustrations, I put the idea aside as I worked on other things.  I finally got to finish this series when I was recently commissioned to illustrate all the songs for a book they wanted to make for their niece.  In the end I ended up drawing all the other songs that take place pre/post TMWSIY, or pertain to Gamehendge in one way or another (some can be debatable).  I did about 20 6×8 ink and watercolor illustrations total.

The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday

"..he knew it had always been there, and felt foolish for overlooking the door for so long." -TMWSIY
“..he knew it had always been there, and felt foolish for overlooking the door for so long.” -TMWSIY

“He said that we could swim it if we tried”

Tela

"Tela, jewel of Wilson's foul domain"
“Tela, jewel of Wilson’s foul domain”

Wilson

"Can you still have fun?"
“Can you still have fun?”

AC/DC Bag

"Brain dead and made of money"
“Brain dead and made of money”

Colonel Forbin’s Ascent

"And he climbed so slowly"
“And he climbed so slowly”

Fly Famous Mockingbird

7mockingbird

The Sloth

8sloth
“Italian spaghetti, singing falsetto”

Possum

"The road was his end"
“The road was his end”

I will be releasing prints soon, and maybe a poster.  The images will also be used in this tour’s illustrated setlists.  I’m working transitioning to all ink and watercolor (Ive got about 40 songs already illustrated).  I’ll also have work at the PhanArt Show during the Mann run (August 12) at the World Live Cafe, so come by and check it out before the show

[1] Phish debut; Fishman on vacuum.

Notes:  The Birds was teased during the jam out of Theme, then teased and quoted during Cities. The Phish debut of Dem Bones began acapella, then Fish moved to vacuum. The song was then stopped because, Trey said, the vacuum had become stuck to Fish’s face. Fish went behind the stage with Brian to fix the problem, and Mike suggested they switch it “from suck to blow.” There was the sound of a small explosion and the lights went out. A giant inflatable Fishman then emerged from behind the stage and took off over the crowd, while the balloon drop, including Henrietta donut balloons, occurred and the band played Auld Lang Syne.

Notes: The backdrop on the stage at the start of the show was a large gate adorned with a “P.” During Lawn Boy, Page introduced Mike as “Michael Gordleone” and Fishman took a drum solo. Trey teased Saw It Again during Tube and San-Ho-Zay during Wolfman’s. The musical costume was a set of original, mostly instrumental music played with the sound effects and narration of the 1964 Disneyland albumChilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House. Prior to the start of Set II, the stage was cleared of all band equipment, and a graveyard set was brought out. At the start of the set, smoke filled the stage, and zombies appeared behind the gate. When the gate opened, a large haunted house with the band inside was brought to the front of the stage. The sound effects and narration were played on the PA, while an undead narrator would emerge from a crypt inscribed with “ESTHER” prior to each song for the introduction. At the end of The Fuse, the sides of the house came down while sounds of an explosion were heard, and the band was revealed inside, dressed in white tuxedoes and with zombie face paint. Several zombies came to the front of the stage and danced during Martian Monster. At the conclusion of the set, the band members came down from the Haunted House riser, slowly walked to the front of the stage, and took bows, along with the entire cast of zombies. All songs during the second set were debuts, with the titles taken from the first ten tracks of Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House. Sand contained a tease by Trey of School’s Out. Is This What You Wanted was a Phish debut. Page performed Frankenstein on keytar, which was played for the first time since July 1, 2012 (100 shows).

Chalk Dust was unfinished and ended with Fish teasing The Wedge. Toward the end of the YEM jam, Trey picked up his megaphone and began using the siren on it as he ran around the stage. Mike joined him, and Trey held the megaphone up to Mike’s bass. Mike then began playing his fight bell with drum sticks while Trey went to the drums and played along with Fishman.  Finally, Mike and Page joined in, so that all four were playing on Fish’s kit. After Page thanked the audience and crew, Mike teased The Load-Out.
